Back Again!  I am this week's host for WAYWO (What Are You Working On) a community diary for crafters, hobbyist, Jacks and Jills of all trades, Artists and anyone who just wants to share whats happening!

You may volunteer to guest host by signing up at this yahoo group ( http://groups.yahoo.com/....), which is checked from time to time.  Also by joining this group, you will receive one email a week when the diary is posted. If you wish to write a WAYWO and would like directions go here: (http://www.dailykos.com/....)I have finished the Day Dress and promised to show you the result.

I learned a lot from this little project. To think that most women of the era made their own dresses and the clothing for their families is just amazing. I am afraid that I would not be a very good seamstress without an electric sewing machine that does button holes, zigzag and stretch stitches!

Why did I make the dress?

Well, one of the Teacher Organizations that I belong to had a Conference in Springfield, IL and booked President Lincoln as an After dinner Speaker. They suggested that member try to "dress" according to the "fashion" of the era and so I decide to make a dress. I enjoyed sewing this dress and found it interesting. I even made some underwear. I did not make a corset or buy one and decided not to wear a hoop skirt...a little much for my figure at my age!

As a retired teacher, I am still active in several organizations and do present topics at Conferences from time to time! I have a really nice Banned Books power point presentation of which I am very proud (yes, it is a "thing of beauty") and I presented my Study Skills power point at this conference in Springfield. Yes, it went well. It was a great conference all the way around!

Join me after the fleur for the final pictures that I promised!

OK....I did not save and by accident hit the ctrl key....Oh Well...it happens to everyone!

I attached the false sleeves:

and the crocheted collar:

So that the dress looks like this:

My little reticule(purse) :

And I was all set!

At the dinner I was escorted by a Major!

Who spoke with the President:

I met a  maid:

and had a great time! Although the Rustic Chicken was not as tasty as I had hoped, but I was busy all day...running around, presenting, socializing, visiting exhibits...etc. so my taste buds may have been a little off and then the 3 hour ride home!!!! At least there was no snow storm as in past years! In fact, the weather has been delightful???? and a little unusual for this time of year in Illinois!

Right now I am going to put the finishing touches on the doll made from left over fabric. Mine is not stuffed with sawdust or wool or scraps as would be the traditional filling....but I intend to embroider the face as soon as I find my embroidery needles!

So are you resting after your holidays? Or are you finishing your projects?

Let everyone know how things are progressing!

Have a great evening!
